William F. "Bill" Hartnett, Jr., passed away while surrounded by his family on the morning of Tuesday, February 17, 2026, after a short battle with cancer. A lifelong Munhall resident, Bill was a dedicated and selfless father, son, brother, and friend who will be remembered as someone who left things better than he found them.
He was a quiet, steady presence always willing to lend an ear and offer support. Whether taking friends and family to Pirate games, cooking family dinners, planting his garden, coaching his kids sports teams, playing in bands, writing novels, teaching his students, or just feeding the birds - Bill always found ways to enjoy life. A US Navy Vietnam veteran, Eagle Scout, and lifelong student, Bill always put others above himself - especially his kids. Bill was an exceptionally kind and loving person who will be deeply missed by all those who were lucky enough to know him.
He is survived by his children, Tara (Baris) Metin, Casey, and Neil Hartnett; sister, Sharon (Ed) Livingston; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles, and nieces and nephews, including Rich and Barb Hill, Colleen (Dale) Fawcett, Joey (Mandee), Jamie, Sean, Dustin, William and Layton Livingston, and Mark Majersky. He was preceded in death by his parents, William F., Sr., and Barbara E. (Hill) Hartnett; beloved sister, Deb Majersky; and nephew, William.
